People make amazing styleguides using storybook, but the process to do so isn't really friendly. Using addons like notes, readme or info poses a dilemma: either the addon i contrained to the panel or it pollutes the preview. The latter is something we actively discourage because it ruins many options for integrations. We want docs to become a first-class citizen in the storybook system. We want to introduce a viewmode that allows the mix between mdx and component stories. Optionally we'd want to be able to show docs-view for components that have no markdown / mdx for it. We should have some base template for such pages.

We need a static config file (no runtime setOptions() ). This way we can prevent flashes of unthemed app, lots of re-renders at the start.. Getting this config would be great for extensibility and performance. We might even get rid of the .storybook entirely. Don't know if this title describes the wish correctly, but here goes: Currently the configuration for the Storybook UI (React version for example) can cause conflicts with the rendered stories. The biggest issue I have with this is when building preact components you can't mix them with react components (using preact-compat) because the react version used in Storybook is incompatible with preact-compat. But I can imagine the same issues can occur with babel and webpack versions.

The current storybook UI needs a refresh. The navigation can be improved a lot, and we need to prepare for more sections other then "components" (currently the only section, but there will be more in the future)

We should follow along with newest version of the tools we use.

Users want their storybook to be their own. They want it to look and feel like part of their company's workflow. To that end we want to allow more customisation. Part of that customisation will be to easily theme storybook.

Separate react native storybook into two parts: React Native Storybook and Storybook Server. Storybook server could be reused later in the future for other frameworks that require websockets for connection.

We want to assist people updating, so adding a bit of UI so people are aware of which version they are on, and which one is the latest. Also we could show changelogs or migration guides along the update notification.

Editing config manually is tricky, we want to allow users to edit the config, but only when really necessary. As an escape-hatch option. Right now, most people are customizing and that just seems wrong. Let's create modules to add to apps like preset-react or preset-typescript . These modules would essentially be addons but for a dedicated purpose of changing config. Addons should be able to to this too.

The current keyboard shortcuts are not really what most users would expect. Let's make it so they are customisable, via the UI or via config.
